Huntington Library Trip!

Hello my name is Faye. I have been a student at LSI language school for one year. I had the opportunity to go to the Huntington Gardens in San Marino. It was very beautiful.

I saw the famous painting "Blueboy" by Thomas Gainsborough. I saw many interesting Gardens, like the Rosegarden, the Japanese garden, and my favorite the Chinese garden. I am Chinese.

I also like the enthusiasm of our teachers, especially one special teacher who led the whole group through the entire trip.

I would recommend anybody visiting Southern California to go to the Huntington Gardens. It is a very special place and I know everybody will appreciate it!

Korean Tofu Soup with Alyssa!

On a Wednesday afternoon I took the afternoon level 4 class to "OO-KOOK", a Korean sundubu restaurant.

We had a lot of fun talking and laughing with each other.

Because there were many students from different countries, everyone spoke English to each other. It was great to practice restaurant language and etiquette, as well as getting to know each other outside of the classroom.

Saying goodbye is never easy; yet it happens all too often!

Saying goodbye to a student is never easy; yet it happens all too often. As a farewell to one of my level 7 students, my students and I went to a local restaurant, 38 Degree Ale House and Grill. My students and I chose 38 Degree because of it's close distance to school. I was impressed by the contemporary and clean design.

My students and I decided on three appetizers; tempura battered onion rings, sweet potato fries, and calamari. Each of my students and I then ordered our own main course meal. The portions were generous, the onion rings were the size of my student's bracelet. While we pre-ordered dessert, unfortunately we ended up having to cancel our bread pudding a la mode.

Although I am sad to see one of my students leaving, I am glad we had a chance to come together as a class. I hope this will be one of the memories my students will remember as they leave Language Systems.

Los Angeles City Hall Tour

Students from Language Systems Northeast Los Angeles had the privilege of taking a tour of Los Angeles CityHall on Wednesday, March 11, 2015. After battling for parking and making it to the meeting point, students were asked to remove everything from their pockets to get through the security screening.

Two docents welcomed students with a series of quick facts and historical explanations. The docents walked students through the main corridors of city hall and allowed them into different chambers and assembly rooms. The main battle was getting people moving at a quicker pace, as the race for the best selfie intensified with every new area visited.

Students were surprised to find out many aspects of Los Angeles that they may have never learned otherwise. Historical displays, ancient architecture, dome art, engineering feats, and symbolic representations adorned the entirety of the building. It felt like walking through a timeline of LA’s life. It’s was a great example of our city’s history for the students to live and remember.

Clippers Game

It was a beautiful Martin Luther King Jr. holiday when I accompanied a group of Language Systems students to see the L.A. Clippers play the Boston Celtics. For many students it was their first experience riding the L.A. Metro trains, so after buying some TAP cards we were off. During the game, many of us had pretzels and popcorn among other snacks that were on offer at the Staples Center. Some of us even bought some Clippers gear. A great time was had by all. @NELAcampus

I had a good experience going to the Staples Center with classmates. We bought a TAP card and took the train to the Staples Center. We made it just in time. I was sitting with classmates and ate burgers and pop corn while watching the game : )
