Beach Party Fun 2015!!!

LSI kicked off its annual beach party on Friday, Aug 28th in Huntington Beach. The weather welcomed everyone with a warm and beautiful opportunity to enjoy the cool ocean water. All schools flew their colors and motivated their volleyball team to do their best. This year’s championship went to the Los Angeles Angels. Congratulations to them for their efforts and competitive spirit.

One of the best things about the beach party is the energy students bring to support their classmates and their school. The beach party presents an opportunity for students and teachers to break from the normal routine and just have a day dedicated to fun. It’s always nice to see everyone have a good time and remember that a new language is about creating new relationships that will help them in their goal to succeed using English.

The water games followed the tournament with plenty of excitement. Between tug of war and eating crazy foods, students got a plenty of sun and sun tans. There were powerful teams and teams that surprised everyone. It was an exciting combination of people flinging water and sand, the sun’s heat intense rays, and an overwhelming venue of excitement. To keep that energy going, this year’s lunch was a delicious Chinese food box that got plenty of good reviews. It was an unexpected, but pleasant surprise.

Overall, it was a fun day at the beach and one that many students will surely remember. Thank you to everyone who participated and we hope to see you all again next year in our Language Systems Beach Party. Have fun and enjoy the rest of your summer.

Camarillo Airshow with Teacher John Bury!

Teacher John from LSI Downtown shared his love for aviation and vintage aircraft by taking 6 students to the Camarillo Air Show last Saturday.

Students were happy to see the aircraft up close and personal as well as see them make low passes over the airfield.

One highlight was a mock air battle between an authentic Japanese Zero fighter and an American Hellcat fighter.

Students were also excited to see aerobatic flying from the Redbull helicopter and one of the top female aerobatic pilots in the world, Vicki Benzing, in her specially modified plane.

There was also a skydiving demonstration with three paratroopers jumping from a vintage C-47, as well as a visit by the only helicopter/aircraft in the world, an MV-22 Osprey.

After a nice dinner at a popular American restaurant, BJ’s, the students remarked that the air show was much better than they expected, and that they would like to go again next year.

Dodger Game with Teacher John Bury!

18 students from LSI Downtown attended the L.A. Dodgers vs. Cincinnati Reds baseball game at Dodger Stadium last Saturday evening led by teacher John.

It was the first time to attend an American Major League baseball game for most of the students.

We sat at the very top of the stadium, so not only did we have a good view of the game, but we also had the best views of the surrounding landscape.

After eating our "Doyer Dogs" and watching the Dodgers win (8-3, with 3 home runs!!), many of the students stayed behind to watch the movie "Back To The Future" on the big stadium screens. It was a really fun evening!!

The Arboretum with Teacher Marcia!

The TOEIC students from the NELA campus were finally able to take a much needed break from their studies and we all headed to THE ARBORETUM in Arcadia on Friday, August 14.

The Arboretum is a paradise for those who love nature. The park has beautifully maintained gardens displaying native flora from a variety of countries, a natural lake, a restaurant and a concert venue.

Friday was a very hot day and it was visibly challenging for the students to carry out their assignments.

They soldiered on, however, and were even able to enjoy and interact with the resident peacocks and their chicks.

One big wake-up call for everyone  and a reminder of the serious drought California is going through was the low level of the water in the lake and the poor fish struggling to swim in it. It was a heartbreaking sight that had everyone saying that from then on, they would make an effort to conserve and appreciate water.

The field trip was challenging but it help put into perspective the precarious state nature and the animals are in.
