Party Night at the Museum with DJ in the South Bay!

We had a little drama getting tickets for the The Natural History Museum's, season's opener, First Fridays event. Because my students didn't heed my advice to buy your tickets early!

First we needed a few more drivers, which luckily we found easily. Then we quickly navigated through L.A.'s wild jungle traffic to be first in line to get the tickets that would soon be released to the non-members of the museum.  Luckily we arrived with plenty of time. Actually an hour with chatting, and connecting with each other was perfect before we walked in the venue filled with DJ's and a live band. After leading an initial intro to the museum, namely the Los Angeles Begins Exhibit, I sent some of the students off to explore the history of the natural world, while others followed me to the dance floor to boogie to the always fantabulous Michael Jackson "ABC"  tune!

Beach Party Fun 2015!!!

LSI kicked off its annual beach party on Friday, Aug 28th in Huntington Beach. The weather welcomed everyone with a warm and beautiful opportunity to enjoy the cool ocean water. All schools flew their colors and motivated their volleyball team to do their best. This year’s championship went to the Los Angeles Angels. Congratulations to them for their efforts and competitive spirit.

One of the best things about the beach party is the energy students bring to support their classmates and their school. The beach party presents an opportunity for students and teachers to break from the normal routine and just have a day dedicated to fun. It’s always nice to see everyone have a good time and remember that a new language is about creating new relationships that will help them in their goal to succeed using English.

The water games followed the tournament with plenty of excitement. Between tug of war and eating crazy foods, students got a plenty of sun and sun tans. There were powerful teams and teams that surprised everyone. It was an exciting combination of people flinging water and sand, the sun’s heat intense rays, and an overwhelming venue of excitement. To keep that energy going, this year’s lunch was a delicious Chinese food box that got plenty of good reviews. It was an unexpected, but pleasant surprise.

Overall, it was a fun day at the beach and one that many students will surely remember. Thank you to everyone who participated and we hope to see you all again next year in our Language Systems Beach Party. Have fun and enjoy the rest of your summer.

OC Beach BBQ!!!

On Friday July 31, about 50 students from Language Systems - Orange County got together at Balboa Beach for a Beach BBQ Party.

The BBQ took place in a nice little park/picnic area on Main St. and the Balboa Pier. During the party, students had a chance to play American football. For many of them it was the first time.

Also, many of our students ended up jumping in the water and body surfing onto the shore. That was a lot of fun too.

As for the BBQ, our meat included hot dogs, Korean Kalbi, Korean beef, Mexican chicken (pollo asado), corn, zucchini, and Korean fish patties (chuipo). We also had Korean kimbap, saasoned tofu, and japchae. The food was really good.

We had students from the following countries: Japan, China, Taiwan, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam, Iran, and Malaysia. The weather was perfect, and the students and staff had a blast!

Summer Party 2015!!!

The annual LSI summer party was a fun-filled night with students from all four campuses coming together to celebrate the summer. This year the party was held at Oiwake, a Japanese restaurant, in Little Tokyo.

Students and teachers gathered on Friday night (July 24th) to enjoy a delicious dinner buffet that featured a variety of Japanese dishes.

It was great to see students, teachers, and the staff hang out in a casual environment and have some wonderful conversations. Many students and teachers sang Karaoke at the restaurant.

The highlight of the night was definitely the talent contest (Language Systems’ Got Talent) which featured four acts. The contestants were: a group of three ladies (Ruthy Bopasa, Akev and Franceemma from The DR Congo) that showcased African dance, a Japanese guitar player (Masatoshi Nishimura aka Matt), another Japanese guitar player (Ryo Higuchi) who played an electronic guitar and lastly a Japanese couple (Saharu Saito & Kai Hasegawa) who sang a gospel song.

The gospel singers were eventually announced as the winners of the $500 prize.

After the contest everyone danced to the music played by a Live DJ. It was definitely a night to remember. If you weren't able to attend the party and would like to watch some of the performances, head over to the LSI Facebook  or YouTube page and feel free to hit LIKE!
