The TOEIC students from
the NELA campus were finally able to take a much needed break from their
studies and we all headed to THE ARBORETUM in Arcadia on Friday, August 14.
The
Arboretum is a paradise for those who love nature. The park has beautifully maintained
gardens displaying native flora from a variety of countries, a natural lake, a
restaurant and a concert venue.
Friday was a
very hot day and it was visibly challenging for the students to carry out their
assignments.
They soldiered on, however, and were even able to enjoy and
interact with the resident peacocks and their chicks.
One big wake-up call for
everyone and a reminder of the serious drought California is going
through was the low level of the water in the lake and the poor fish struggling
to swim in it. It was a heartbreaking sight that had everyone saying that from
then on, they would make an effort to conserve and appreciate water.
The field
trip was challenging but it help put into perspective the precarious state
nature and the animals are in.
