Italian Lunch with teacher Michael An'gile!

On Saturday 09/14/2015, Teacher Michael An'gileo and a group of students (representing the countries of Venezuela, Turkey, South Korea, Japan, Mexico and Saudi Arabia) met for an amazing Italian Lunch and cool lesson in the Italian Language at Andre's Restaurant across from the Grove.

Wow! The pizza, spaghetti, garlic bread and gelato were fantastic. Andre's is an historic restaurant, in business for over a half-century in Los Angeles. The students were really impressed with the huge quantities of food, delicious ice cream, and great prices.

In Italian we learned to say... "Grazie mille... ci vediamo!" It means.. "Thank you so much, see you again soon!" Ciao!

Wine Tour!

On Labor Day, nine wine-loving students from Language Systems Downtown LA visited three Central Coast Wineries, Babcock Vineyard & Winery, Koehler Vineyard & Winery, and Rusack Vineyard & Winery with teacher John, who is a longtime visitor to the area and a wine club member of the three wineries.

The first stop was Babcock, where students enjoyed tasting eight high-quality wines with cheese & crackers. We were served in the spacious tasting room while sitting around a low table.

Next, we drove to Los Olivos to buy lunch, then took it to Koehler to taste eight more wines and enjoy a picnic under shady trees, drinking four bottles of Koehler's Riesling, Grenache (red) and a Grenache Rose. Some students bought wine using John's 20% club member discount.

We then divided into two groups, one group exploring quaint Danish-style Solvang, and the other taking in one more winery, Rusack.

After meeting up again, we all went to Chumash Casino, where most students won some money!!

It was a long day, but everyone had a great time learning about wine, tasting delicious local wine of the area, playing tourist in Solvang, and just enjoying the beautiful Southern California countryside on a warm late-summer day.

They got to the story telling night and the event lasted from 8-10pm. It was a perfect night. Sushant entered his name in the contest and they picked him. I told my story. The audience had to vote for their favorite story and guess what?! He won!!!!! $100 in cash :)

Beach Party Fun 2015!!!

LSI kicked off its annual beach party on Friday, Aug 28th in Huntington Beach. The weather welcomed everyone with a warm and beautiful opportunity to enjoy the cool ocean water. All schools flew their colors and motivated their volleyball team to do their best. This year’s championship went to the Los Angeles Angels. Congratulations to them for their efforts and competitive spirit.

One of the best things about the beach party is the energy students bring to support their classmates and their school. The beach party presents an opportunity for students and teachers to break from the normal routine and just have a day dedicated to fun. It’s always nice to see everyone have a good time and remember that a new language is about creating new relationships that will help them in their goal to succeed using English.

The water games followed the tournament with plenty of excitement. Between tug of war and eating crazy foods, students got a plenty of sun and sun tans. There were powerful teams and teams that surprised everyone. It was an exciting combination of people flinging water and sand, the sun’s heat intense rays, and an overwhelming venue of excitement. To keep that energy going, this year’s lunch was a delicious Chinese food box that got plenty of good reviews. It was an unexpected, but pleasant surprise.

Overall, it was a fun day at the beach and one that many students will surely remember. Thank you to everyone who participated and we hope to see you all again next year in our Language Systems Beach Party. Have fun and enjoy the rest of your summer.
