Huntington Library Trip!

Hello my name is Faye. I have been a student at LSI language school for one year. I had the opportunity to go to the Huntington Gardens in San Marino. It was very beautiful.

I saw the famous painting "Blueboy" by Thomas Gainsborough. I saw many interesting Gardens, like the Rosegarden, the Japanese garden, and my favorite the Chinese garden. I am Chinese.

I also like the enthusiasm of our teachers, especially one special teacher who led the whole group through the entire trip.

I would recommend anybody visiting Southern California to go to the Huntington Gardens. It is a very special place and I know everybody will appreciate it!

Hot Chicken Wings With Jasmin!

Dear ladies,
It's always hard to say goodbye, but unfortunately that time has come for me to say goodbye to my lovely classmates and nice teachers. As our farewell lunch, my classmates and I chose Alondra Hot Wings.

I really appreciated that Ms. J drove us there. It was quite a surprise that there was a crowd so early. After we were seated, the server served us with plates. However, we  found there were some sauces and food leftover on the plates, and it felt oily. We had to ask to change them. Then the server forgot to provide us with the utensils until we asked again. This restaurant's service was quite slow and unsatisfying.

We ordered 3 dishes which made us quite full. 16 pieces of chicken wings with 2 flavors - one half lemon pepper & the other half teriyaki. Both of them were very salty, especially for the lemon pepper ones. I think the cook might have inadvertently shook his wrist too much. LOL.

Following the wings, came the pastrami chili fries, which was a generous portion. It was garlic fries (I think) covered with chili sauce, cheddar cheese, and topped with pastrami. It was good but high in calories.

Later, our Godfather pizza arrived. This pizza was perfect for meat lovers, like us, with pepperoni, sausage, and ham as toppings. We thought it tasted even better than Costco pizza.

However, considering these huge plates, we saved some room for dessert - triple chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. Thank you Ms. J for teaching me a new expression "a la mode."

Although the service and the food were not satisfactory, we still had an enjoyable time. It will be a cherished memory for us. I'd like to thank Ms. J again for these past 2 months. To my classmates in level 7 Sophie and Lydia, thanks for your help. I hope we keep in touch .

Love,

Summer

Korean Tofu Soup with Alyssa!

On a Wednesday afternoon I took the afternoon level 4 class to "OO-KOOK", a Korean sundubu restaurant.

We had a lot of fun talking and laughing with each other.

Because there were many students from different countries, everyone spoke English to each other. It was great to practice restaurant language and etiquette, as well as getting to know each other outside of the classroom.

Weekly Coffee Talk With Bhumika!

Our weekly Coffee Talk activity at Starbucks was successful once again.

Had a little more students than usual but that turned out to be a good thing for the students.

They were able to interact with each other and help each other out.

It was good to see students from higher levels helping the students from lower levels.

Coffee Time With Bhumika!

Once again got a good size group to participate in this activity. Sitting outside, sipping Starbucks, on a beautiful evening, kept the students' motivation up. Many students were from the same level, so it was convenient to group-teach them and ease their anxiety for their upcoming tests. Grammar turned out to be the most talked about subject of the evening. Also, brought along extra worksheets to help them review their level appropriate topics. At the end of the session, the students felt well-prepared and more confident.

Karaoke with Bhumika!

A really good turn out of students, as well as a few teachers, for the much awaited Karaoke activity on a Friday night. Students from various levels participated and enjoyed singing songs of different genres. American, Japanese, Spanish, hip-hop, classics, just to name a few.

We were also fortunate to have 2 students, Kai and Saharu, who are professional Gospel/R&B singers, participate that evening. Even more amazing was that they only sang songs in English. They definitely got everyone's attention with their jaw dropping performances every time they sang.
It was a very fun & successful evening.
