Futsal Tournament 2016

On Friday, September 16, Language Systems International (LSI) held its first annual Futsal Tournament at LA Galaxy Soccer Center.

All four LSI campuses, including the Northeast LA Dragons, Orange County (OC) Surfers, and the South Bay (SB) Sharks, participated enthusiastically and brought many fans along for the ride!

It was a new and exciting experience for both the teams and the fans. The facilities at the LA Galaxy Soccer Center were amazing as the teams adjusted to playing on an indoor field and with fewer players.

The fans from each school crowded around the "Donovan" and "Beckham" courts to watch the fierce competition and cheer their teams on. Each school was represented by students wearing their school colors.

The Northeast LA Dragons wore green, the LA Angels wore yellow, the South Bay Sharks wore blue, and the OC students wore red.

Each team had prepared for this tournament by practicing and learning how to work together.

This was evident when watching the teams practice the match. Each team looked disciplined, confident, and ready to have a good time.

The championship match was between the SBLA Sharks and the DTLA Angels. Each school played strong and with a lot of heart, but in the end, the SBLA Sharks came away with the championship trophy. Congratulations, SBLA!

Afterwards, the students and players got together to hang out at the "LA Galaxy Cafe," where LSI staff offered soft drinks, snacks, and pizza. There was a drawing by Expedition America and several students won free LA City Tours and two free Las Vegas trips!

Getty Center Trip

The Getty center field trip was an exciting and insightful trip for many of the students. We explored the gardens read a short history of the Getty, and reviewed paintings from the Renaissance through the 19th century.

The Getty was featuring a Rembrandt exhibit and I was able to explain the cultural and his store cool significance of the great Dutch painter.

The students also loved to taking a tour through the Elizabethan and Victorian English and French Woodley living quarters, looking at the elegant ancient furniture, and with the style of life was for old European royalty.

We wrapped up the trip at the Getty with a special exhibits about Buddhist caves created by the Chinese during the tong dynasty. The Getty is featuring exact replica of these caves in a tent just in front of the museum for free! Many of the students sod is an excellent opportunity to take a glimpse into the life of their own ancient cultures.

All in all, the Getty Center was a wonderful trip that many of the students enjoyed from a cultural and educational perspective, and we were able to learn English as we were viewing wonderful works of Western art.

DTLA Tour!

The field trip to downtown Los Angeles was a great time. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves.
We started out by eating sausages at a traditional German style sausage making restaurant.  After enjoying some of this cuisine in the arts District, just south of Little Tokyo, we went to the Disney concert hall to tour the property. We explored the building and the architecture, as well as the beautiful gardens above.

We ended our trip, unexpectedly, at the Broad museum, which at the time had no line.

The museum was awesome, and we enjoyed works by Andy Warhol and Mike Kelly.

The students also really loved the big furniture and the giant balloon animals. We hope to go again!!
