Getty Center Trip

The Getty center field trip was an exciting and insightful trip for many of the students. We explored the gardens read a short history of the Getty, and reviewed paintings from the Renaissance through the 19th century.

The Getty was featuring a Rembrandt exhibit and I was able to explain the cultural and his store cool significance of the great Dutch painter.

The students also loved to taking a tour through the Elizabethan and Victorian English and French Woodley living quarters, looking at the elegant ancient furniture, and with the style of life was for old European royalty.

We wrapped up the trip at the Getty with a special exhibits about Buddhist caves created by the Chinese during the tong dynasty. The Getty is featuring exact replica of these caves in a tent just in front of the museum for free! Many of the students sod is an excellent opportunity to take a glimpse into the life of their own ancient cultures.

All in all, the Getty Center was a wonderful trip that many of the students enjoyed from a cultural and educational perspective, and we were able to learn English as we were viewing wonderful works of Western art.

DTLA Tour!

The field trip to downtown Los Angeles was a great time. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves.
We started out by eating sausages at a traditional German style sausage making restaurant.  After enjoying some of this cuisine in the arts District, just south of Little Tokyo, we went to the Disney concert hall to tour the property. We explored the building and the architecture, as well as the beautiful gardens above.

We ended our trip, unexpectedly, at the Broad museum, which at the time had no line.

The museum was awesome, and we enjoyed works by Andy Warhol and Mike Kelly.

The students also really loved the big furniture and the giant balloon animals. We hope to go again!!

LSI Beach Party!

Friday Aug 19 was an exciting day for a lot of LSI students, teachers and staff members. All of us from four different campuses arrived in Huntington Beach at around 9:30 pm and started setting up tents.

Students grabbed some delicious breakfast snacks and went over to watch the Volleyball Tournament that was about to start. All the schools played really well and were supported by cheers from their perspective campuses.

The winner of the tournament this year was the Downtown LA campus. The fun continued as we moved to other fun games.

The Tug-of-War was so much fun. Even teachers and staff participated in it. All the different campuses took part in the exhilarating water games and won a lot of gift certificates as prizes!

Everyone was in such a cheerful and happy mood. Students made new friends and posed for selfies with them.

We all felt like one big family. We had worked up an appetite with all those games and were ready to grab lunch, which was wonderful. There were sandwiches, wraps, chips, and watermelon.

We took a few moments after lunch to connect with our friends and swim in the ocean. The water was cold but we got used to it quickly.

After that we got ready for the disgusting food eating contest. It was crazy to watch the contestant eat food like spicy peppers, bitter gourd, lemon and other unexpected things.

After that, things started to wind down and we started getting ready to leave. We said goodbye to everyone and were filled with gratitude and happiness for such an amazing sun kissed day.

Needless to say, the weather was simply divine throughout the whole day. We love California and can't wait for the LSI 2017 Beach Party!!!

Shakespeare By The Sea

Students joined teacher Steven from SB campus in San Pedro for Shakespeare By The Sea's performance of "Othello."

Shakespeare By the Sea is a group of traveling actors who perform various Shakespeare plays along the coast in Los Angeles.

Point Fermin is a lovely scenic spot that most students miss when they're in LA.

Luckily they could catch this popular summer event in this special place. Everyone met at school and carpooled down the San Pedro just before sunset.

Some students brought snacks and drinks and some were available for purchase there.

Everyone enjoyed a lovely evening under the stars with Othello!

Food Trucks in America!!

A lot of students at Language Systems come from countries that have a vibrant street food culture. Because of certain strict laws and regulations in California, there is not a lot of street food out there. However, we do have a thing called food trucks in California, and you should check some of them out. A lot of cities have food truck gatherings, when many different types of food trucks all meet at one location to give people a really cool dining experience.

Recently, a group of Language Systems students from the OC campus went to a food truck gathering in Fullerton, CA. The most popular truck that night was a fusion truck that combined Korean food with Mexican and American food.

The most popular item that the students ordered was the pork belly sliders. Another favorite was a truck selling Cajun food, which comes from New Orleans, Louisiana. Sometimes ordering from the food trucks may seem a little expensive, but you are supporting a small “family business.” Check it out!
