A Taste of Orange County - Indian Fast Food

One of the great things about living in Southern California is the food! We have authentic food from all over the world. At our Language Systems - Orange County campus, there is a monthly activity called "A Taste of Orange County." 

The purpose of this activity is to give our ESL students a chance to try many different kinds of food while they are here in California. 

On Thursday, January 5, we visited a place called Curry Hut in Fullerton, CA. This place is run by a family from India, and they serve Indian fast food that is fresh, delicious, and inexpensive. 

The most popular way to order is to do the 1, 2 or 3 item combo. It comes with rice and freshly baked Naan (Indian bread). 

They give you so much food that two people can share a 2-item combo, which only costs $7.99. The food was so delicious! Of course, it was a little spicy, but after all, it is authentic Indian food.  

We will definitely go back again. For all of our students it was their very first time eating Indian food. Welcome to Orange County!

Lunch social at a local taqueria with Ty!

On Thursday November 12, 2015 about 15 students from Language Systems - OC had a lunch social activity at the local Taqueria de Anda, which is a local taco shop that serves delicious authentic Mexican food.  

It's hard to live in California and NOT eat Mexican food.  For many of these students it was actually their first time trying a food that almost every California native grew up eating.  

Some students got tacos, some got burritos, and a couple tried the quesadillas.  Students had to choose a meat, with the choices being BBQ pork (Al Pastor), Mexican beef (Asada), and chicken.  They also had to choose between red sauce (spicy) and green sauce (not that spicy).  

When one student from Japan held the burrito in her hands for the first time, she said, "It's so heavy!"  Half of us had food coma when we were done eating lunch.  It was a lot of fun, and our Language Systems students did a great job trying something new, and something unique about life in California.

Fall Beach BBQ in OC!

On Friday October 23, about 60 OC students met in Newport Beach for our annual Fall Beach BBQ.

We had students from Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Korea, Thailand, Japan, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Jordan, Egypt, Venezuela, Kazakhstan, Yemen, and probably a couple of countries that I'm forgetting.  

The weather was wonderful, the water was warm, the food was delicious, and the company was the best.  All our students had so much fun together.  At the end of the afternoon, we were able to see a gorgeous California sunset.

Soccer Tournament 2015!!!

On Friday, June 15, 2015, Language Systems International (LSI) held its annual Soccer Tournament! All four campuses, including the Northeast LA Dragons, Orange County (OC) Surfers, and the South Bay Sharks, participated enthusiastically and cheered their teams on. Everyone wanted to beat last year’s champion, the LA Angels, and take back the trophy to display until next year.

The competition among the schools was fierce. Each school was represented by students wearing their school colors. The Northeast LA Dragons wore green, the LA Angels wore yellow, the South Bay Sharks wore blue, and the OC students wore red. 

Each team had been thoroughly prepared by practicing and learning how to work together. This was evident when watching the teams practice on the field before the match. Each team looked disciplined and confident. It was obvious that the teams had put in a lot of hours practicing for the tournament.

In one of the first games, in which the Dragons played the Sharks, the game went into overtime and was decided by a penalty kick. It was a tough game, but Northeast LA was able to come out on top and move on to play in the championship match against the OC Surfers, who had won their first game 4 – 2 against the Angels.

That set up the championship match between the Northeast LA Dragons and the OC Surfers. Each school played strong and with a lot of heart, but in the end, the OC Surfers came away with the championship trophy. Congratulations, OC!

During and after the tournament, students from all four schools had a chance to hang out and make new friends.  

After the tournament was finished and the trophy had been passed on to OC, LSI provided all the students and players with a pizza lunch.

The soccer tournament was a fun event and many students are looking forward to LSI’s annual Beach party in August. For that event, each school will need to get a beach volleyball team together to compete for yet another trophy! Mark your calendars and get ready for another day filled with competition and fun!
