Hotel Cafe with Daniel Landau!!!

On the evening of July 11th, LSI students were treated to an evening of music by local and national touring acts at the Hotel Cafe, One of Hollywood's best venues for live music.

On the bill that evening was the record release of a band called "The Battlefield", who announced that they would be touring around the country following that evening's concert at Hotel Cafe. If you are looking to see some of the best up-and-coming musical acts that really has something to offer, this is the place for you almost any night of the week.

Concert at Hotel Cafe in Hollywood!!

Last Thursday night, #DTLA students ventured to one of Hollywood’s premier music venues – The Hotel Café. Despite the name, it is neither a hotel nor a café, but instead a restaurant and bar which features some of LA’s top talent playing in a comfortable, ambient lounge setting.

On this particular evening, the #DTLA students came to the Hotel Café to hear the musical stylings of Smithfield Bargain, an LA-based jazz-folk band, as well as the music of an amazing trio of three sisters on tour from Portland, Oregon called Joseph. Situated in one of Hollywood’s best walkable areas near Cahuenga and Hollywood Blvd, it’s easy to find something to suit your fancy. Bonus: it's close to a metro stop, so no need to worry about traffic or parking.

Runyon Canyon Hike

On October 18th, 2014, Aluisio led a group of 12 LSI students from Downtown LA and their friends on a hike through Runyon Canyon Park.
We met at LSI around 2pm, took the red line metro at Wilshire/Vermont and got off at the Hollywood/Highland station. From there, we walked to Runyon Canyon Park (2001 N Fuller Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90046).
The park is located in the far east end of the Santa Monica Mountains, just west of the Hollywood Sign and with amazing views of the Los Angeles landscape, the Hollywood Hills and Mulholland Drive. We hiked up and down both east and west hills on the Canyon.
I often go there on my own as the Park is at a walking distance from my place. It was the students’ (and their friends’) first time there. We all had a great time, and plan on going back. @LSILA

Sunday L.A. Tour in Vintage Cars

On Sunday, August 10th, LSI teacher John, a member of the San Fernando Valley Model A Club, grabbed three of his fellow club members and their cars and took 10 LSI students on a tour of Griffith Park, Hollywood, and Beverly Hills in vintage 1928-1931 Fords. A parade of four vintage autos is quite a sight on the streets of Los Angeles, so people were waving, yelling, honking, and taking pictures all along our route. The high point in the trip was a stop at the iconic Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills, a vintage 1927 building. The day ended with dinner at Souplantation across from the Beverly Center. As one student put it, "There's no better way to cruise Sunset Blvd...in the rumble seat of a 1930 Ford Deluxe Coupe. @LSILA
