Taco Tuesday

Taco Tuesday. Arguably the two greatest words in the English Language. 

On a recent Tuesday afternoon, some LSI South Bay students and teachers headed to Hermosa Beach eatery American Junkie to experience the splendor of $8 all you can eat tacos. 

The sea air was fresh and the vibe was very relaxing. 

It was a great opportunity for teachers and students to truly let their hair down together outside the classroom. 

Hopefully this becomes a regular activity!

The Juice Joint

Amanda, a popular ESL teacher at the Torrance campus, introduced the students to a one of a kind Open Mic Live music event called "

The Juice Joint" at The Study in Hollywood on Memorial Day 5/29/2017.

The event is unique because it is a truly open mic and invites anyone with any kind of musical or artistic talent to join the house band on stage for an improvisational challenge! 

In addition, the students enjoyed a variety of performances with American inspired music which included singing, reading poetry, dancing, and more! They also participated in interactive games that the host of the show was playing with the audience (all in English!).

Hawaiian dances at the Glendale High School

LSI students, teachers and friends joined me (Caroline) on Saturday, May 20th to watch beautiful Hawaiian dances at the Glendale High School auditorium. 

Audience members enjoyed several performances which had different themes and stories. We got to learn a lot about the Hawaiian culture as well. 

Later in the show, award winners Mailani Makainai and Kupu Dalire sang live as dancers performed on stage. It was an absolute treat. 

Rona (LSI teacher in DTLA) was one of the dancers. She did an amazing job and everyone cheered whenever she stepped onstage. 

They were so happy and proud to see their teacher dancing the Hula!

After the show, we got to enjoy some delicious deep dish Chicago style pizzas at Masa of Echo Park! 

Overall, it was a wonderful afternoon of Hula, Hawaiian music, and Aloha!
